Tricia Goyer is hosting a link-up on her blog to celebrate the release of her book The Kissing Bridge. The prompt is to write a blog post about either a beautiful bridge or a special kiss. That sparked the idea of writing about my first kiss!

It was a beautiful night. The moon was bright, and Aaron and I decided to take a walk around the pond by my parents’ house. You couldn’t ask for a more romantic setting.

Aaron held my hand and told me, “I’ve never kissed anyone before.”

My heart raced when I answered, “I haven’t either.”

And then we kissed…

Actually, it was more of a brief, awkward peck.

Fifteen years later, mention of that kiss still makes us smile and laugh.

That’s kind of what marriage is like though. We have these grand romantic visions of what it’s going to be like. Truth is, it won’t be quite what you expected and there will be plenty of awkward moments. You’ll figure things out together, and your relationship will get better because of that.

Life together is made up of many moments… good ones, hard ones, breathtaking ones, heartbreaking ones, funny ones, and serious ones. It’s all of those moments that make up your story. It’s not a fairy tale, that’s for sure! It’s so much better… because it’s your story.

You know what? I’m glad that our first kiss wasn’t some movie-perfect moment, but a real moment. Because in the end, my favorite love story is the story of Aaron and me.
