Aaron had to leave the house amazingly early on Friday morning for a photo shoot. I tried to get back to sleep, but after an hour and a half I just gave up and decided to go bake something. 4:30 in the morning seemed like a good time to make some coffee cake. By the time the sun was streaming through the windows, the coffee cake was done and my tea had steeped. I heard the creak of footsteps on the stairs just as I sat down at the table with my tea. The three boys were still fast asleep upstairs as Munchkin wandered into the dining room.
We brewed a cup of cherry herbal tea for Munchkin, and got two pieces of coffee cake on plates. It was nice sitting at the table and drinking tea with my daughter. She really is growing up so fast.
Funny thing is, while I was mixing up the coffee cake I’d been wishing that I could invite Mom down for a piece of it and a cup of coffee. So many times I sat at her dining room table sipping a cup of coffee or tea while she always had her French vanilla cappuccino. That’s one of the things I miss the most.
Friday morning, things came full-circle. It was my daughter sitting at the dining room table, enjoying a morning cup of tea with her mom. It’s the moments like that I’ll always treasure.
