I love coffee. It’s pretty much a genetically inherited trait on my mom’s side of the family. Bags of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee have been some of the more popular Christmas gifts at the family get-together. When we took our family day-trips to the coast in the summer, a stop (or two) at Dunkin’ Donuts for coffee was a must.
Sadly, I had to give up coffee several years ago. For some crazy reason my stomach decided that coffee was no longer an acceptable beverage. Since Earl Grey and I go way back, giving up coffee was a little less painful because I could still brew a cup of my favorite tea. (We just won’t discuss how many cups of tea I drink in a day…) As much as I love tea, I still sometimes have a day that calls for coffee. I can usually sneak a cup about once a month with no ill effects. More than that and my picky tummy notices. I keep a stash of single serve instant coffee packets for my rare cup of joe. Well if you’re only having one cup of coffee each month, then you’d better make it a good one, right?
I figure Starbucks is better than the Sanka that my great-aunts used to drink. I’m not sure what that stuff was, but I don’t think it was in the coffee family. Considering how rarely I drink it, I’d say it’s OK to splurge a bit. So, I’ll keep replenishing my little stash of ridiculously overpriced coffee packets. I’m still hoping that someday Dunkin’ Donuts will offer little packets of instant coffee, because there is nothing better than Dunkin’ Donuts coffee… not even Starbucks.
