“Poetry might be defined as the clear expression of mixed feelings.” — W.H. Auden
I think that quote sums up why I love poetry as much as I do. There’s a quality about it that seems to express emotion in a way that goes beyond just the words on the page. I’d come across some free verse poetry on Pinterest by David Jones, and was always struck by the depth of feeling he expressed in so few words.
When I found out that he had published books of poetry, I knew that I wanted to order one. The hard part was picking which book to order, but with a title like Love & Space Dust, how could I resist?
The poems included in this anthology are short and free verse style poetry. The book does end with a rather intriguing short story that is heavy on reflection and emotion. The story did include themes of reincarnation, and similar ideas come through some of the poetry as well. Though I may not agree with all of the ideas expressed, I do admire the artistry of the poetry, and there are a number of the ideas and emotions expressed in the book that do resonate with me.
If you are a fan of free verse poetry, the work of David Jones is well worth a look, and you can find his work on his social media accounts.
Free verse poetry is something I’ve only recently started reading much of, so if you have any recommendations, let me know in the comments!
